We often think about Stoicism as a way to handle our own emotions. But it’s also an excellent framework for helping you to avoid being used or emotionally manipulated by others. I’ve been talking a lot lately about caring for other people, so I want to make it clear that caring for others does not equate to being a doormat! Our goal as Stoics is to care
Great post! Paul Zak, who studies the neuroscience of human connection, says that conmen get their victims to trust them, thereby releasing oxytocin (the bonding chemical). But the conmen themselves don't release oxytocin. According to Zak's research, about 5% of people don't release oxytocin and have attributes similar to psychopaths. Explanations / theories about what drives people pique my Stoic curiosity :)
