It’s that time of year again. October is traditionally the season of Stoic events, particularly two big ones hosted by Modern Stoicism: Stoicon and Stoic Week. Please take advantage of this incredible opportunity to learn more about Stoicism from world-leading scholars and practitioners. You will also have a chance to meet Stoic-curious people from all over the world. Practicing Stoicism as part of a sincere, like-minded community is a very powerful way to uplift yourself and your own practice. I highly recommend participating in these events if at all possible!
Here are some more details and links to registration.
Stoicon 2024
Saturday, October 19
It’s the biggest Stoic event in the world! Every year we gather online at Modern Stoicism’s annual conference to hear talks by academics, therapists, writers, coaches, and other Stoic experts. This year’s theme is cosmopolitanism, including a keynote talk by Columbia’s Katia Maria Vogt. You will also have the chance to hear lightning talks by Stoic practitioners from every walk of life, as they explain how Stoicism enriches their everyday experience. For those who can’t make it in person, all talks are recorded so you can watch at your convenience. However, if you can join in real time, you’ll get to ask the speakers questions and interact with other viewers, which is always one of the highlights. Grab your tickets through Eventbrite.
Stoic Week 2024: Stoicism and Wellbeing
Starts Monday, October 28
Stoic Week has been going strong for over a decade now, and the results are in: living like a Stoic for a week has wonderful mental health benefits. (Did I mention it’s completely FREE?) Data from previous years show that people who take part in this online event have higher positive affect, lower negative affect, a greater sense of purpose and more “zest” for life. So why not join in?
You’ll receive a daily lesson for 7 days, including video and audio material, and the opportunity to asynchronously talk with other participants from around the world. (Last year over 4,000 people signed up!) Plus, you’ll be prompted to think, write, and put specific Stoic concepts into practice each day.
The materials have been meticulously created and curated by my amazing friends Tim Lebon and Eve Riches. Tim LeBon is a founder member of the Modern Stoicism team and leads our psychological research into the benefits of Stoicism. Tim is the author of Wise Therapy, 365 Ways to be More Stoic & Achieve your Potential with Positive Psychology and has written many articles on Stoicism. He is also an accredited CBT therapist and a philosophical life coach. His website and contact details can be found at www.timlebon.com.
Eve Riches is a mentor, employment consultant and teacher. She is also a Stoic Life Coach and is particularly interested in improving emotional resilience and applying Stoicism to everyday life. Eve has run a very successful monthly Stoicism online learning group and research project with Modern Stoicism, where she is on the steering committee. She is also a cofounder (with me) of Stoicare, a nonprofit organization devoted to Stoicism and wellbeing. Learn more about Eve at everiches.com.
Exciting 😊
